About Me

Yekoyealem Desie, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology, College of Education, and Behavioral Studies at Addis Ababa University (AAU). He has many years of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and student advisement. He has served as an associate dean for research and technology transfer in the College of Education and Behavioral Studies at AAU and is currently serving as Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Studies at AAU. Dr. Yekoyealm’s research focuses on youth development, parenting, education and youth development, and the influence of media on children and youth development. At present, Yekoyealm is participating in and leading different research projects. Yekoyealem is one of the researchers who participated in the development of the Ethiopian Education and Training Roadmap in 2018, and currently he is a member of the Education Advisory Council for the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia. Yekoyealem has a strong quantitative and qualitative research background. He was a visiting PhD scholar in the Department of Psychosocial Sciences in the University of Bergen, Norway from October 2012 to December 2012 and a short-term visiting scholar in the Department of Quantitative Research and Measurement at the Ohio State University, U.S.A. from February 2020 to May 2020. Yekoyealem is serving as an associate editor and reviewer for several local and international journals. Dr, Yekoyealem is an active member of the Ethiopian Psychologists’ Association, OSSREA, CODESRIA, ISSBD, the Nordic Comparative and International Education Society (NOICES), and an affiliate international member of the American Educational Researchers Association (AERA). These experiences could serve as an asset to properly design and conduct the research project on liberal arts education in the global south that will ultimately serve to transform the higher education landscape in Ethiopia and beyond.
