A postcard from… Taiwan

By Wen-Hsi Harman, PhD student in ceramics at the School of Art &Design, Bath Spa University   I recently visited the National Taiwan University of Arts Department of Crafts and Design. This project allowed me to share my enthusiasm about ceramic research and practice in relation to Taiwanese cultural identity. This was my first time that I have had the opportunity to share my research with the students in the National Taiwan University of Arts Department. NTU Pic 1 I met the Director of the International Cooperation Division, Ivan Yi- Feng Li, at the Office of International Affairs. He shared his experience about international projects.   ntu 22   I also met with Associate Professor Jia-Haur Liang, who is also a ceramic artist. We are both also members of the UNESCO-International Academy of Ceramics (IAC). We discussed the condition of the ceramics development in Taiwan and how artists survive in the art world. I also organized a clay drawing workshop with British ceramic artist Martin Harman with other students.   ntu 45   The visit helped me to learn and share my knowledge with other people and to serve as a cultural bridge to connect Taiwan and Britain through ceramics.
