Leuphana University, Germany

Leuphana University of Lüneburg emerged from the special legal mandate of the Lower Saxony state parliament to rethink university and create a model university for the Bologna Process. It is supported by a foundation under public law and regards itself as a space for the free pursuit of knowledge, intellectual creativity, personal development, and social engagement. For its studies, it has developed a multi-award-winning study model with three Schools for Teaching and Learning, which is still unique in Germany today. Five Schools for Research are home to Leuphana’s research priorities in the fields of education, culture and society, management and technology, sustainability, and public affairs.

At Leuphana we have a unique liberal arts Major programme, Studium Individuale. This gives students the freedom and the responsibility to design their own tailored Bachelor’s curriculum. The unique study programme challenges students to engage with key questions and problems of the present. It helps them cultivate academic skills that are fundamental for living and working in today’s world and supports them in formulating their ideas and goals, and taking steps towards them.
