We are pleased to invite you to participate in “Drawing Dialogues: Calibration and Celebration of Drawing in Design”, a two-day symposium to be held at the NID Gandhinagar Campus on 30 and 31 October 2026 (Friday and Saturday).
Drawing, at its core, is a dialogue between the inner and outer worlds—where mark-making becomes a site of both perception and reception. Rooted in the Indian philosophical ideas of drishti (seeing) and anubhava (experience), this symposium seeks to explore drawing as a fundamental act of thinking, perceiving, and creating in design. It positions drawing not merely as representation, but as a medium that mediates between self and context—shaping ideas through reflection, intuition, and embodied knowledge.
Drawing remains central to design pedagogy across disciplines at NID. This symposium aims to provide a shared platform for educators, practitioners, researchers, and students to engage in dialogue, practice, and critical reflection on the evolving role of drawing—especially in contemporary design education.
Objectives of the Symposium:
• To explore the cognitive, expressive, communicative, analytical, and speculative roles of drawing in design
• To investigate drawing across analogue, digital, and hybrid media
• To examine drawing as a tool for visual thinking, idea development, and meaning-making
• To share pedagogical approaches, studio practices, and research
• To celebrate drawing as a dynamic language bridging intuition and intellect

The symposium will include keynote talks, presentations, panel discussions, and a drawing exhibition.
Call for Submission of Abstracts for Presentations:
We invite abstracts (150–200 words) for presentations. Selected abstracts will be invited to present at the symposium.
