A postcard from… Adelaide

During my time in Adelaide, I was faced with numerous opportunities to develop my personal skills. Having never travelled abroad on my own before, I had to rely on my own initiative to make the most of the opportunity. Fortunately, Adelaide is home to plenty of interesting places and the locals are often happy to recommend activities.
The internship at the University of Adelaide gave me the opportunity to study 3D modelling with very knowledgeable and personable tutors. Each week we focused on developing our final projects, modelling new objects to include within our scenes and texturing them appropriately. Being able to spend time studying in a smaller setting allowed us to ask questions more frequently and spend more time working with our tutors.
As I was going to be there for an extended period of time, I wanted to see as much of Adelaide as possible. I visited the zoo, took a tram to the beach and visited Adelaide’s local stadium, The Oval. I would often walk around the city in the evenings and visit the local bars, shops and cafés. All of the locals were very friendly, so I always felt welcome wherever I ended up.
The accommodation was directly opposite the south Australian museum and very close to the University. The museum had plenty of information and artefacts surrounding the history of the south Australian people. I enjoyed my trip to the museum and learning about the culture of the indigenous people.
Towards the end of the trip I experienced Illuminate Adelaide, an annual event centred around light-based art installations located around the city. Throughout the event, the streets were full of locals taking in each attraction. Being able to partake in the event was an incredible opportunity and one I would definitely recommend to anyone who applies for this opportunity in the future.
