GALA network hosted Professor Francesco Benozzo as Visiting Professor in Bathspa, November 2023. As a consequence of his very interesting and much attended lectures and concerts, which had a great success with colleagues and students of the network, GALA decided to propose for Francesco Benozzo an official Candidature for the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2024.

GALA network confirmed Francesco Benozzo’s candidature for the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature for we believe Francesco Benozzo has made a lasting, long-term, and highly significant contribution to what we might call modern bardic poetry. Francesco Benozzo’s work is a profound mixture of medieval saga literature and lyrical poetry, allied to a post-Romantic emphasis on the importance of the self and selfhood in the tradition of William Wordsworth and S. T. Coleridge. What is admirable about Benozzo’s work is that he takes ancient traditions and makes them new. His is a wide vision, embedding world native traditions with a vibrant medieval, principally Celtic, heritage. Francesco Benozzo’s is also very ethical body of work, which seeks to do good in the world, emphasising the importance of the artistic traditions of marginalised national groups. GALA thinks

also the manner in which his work is conceptualised in aligning poetry with song, poetry with history and poetry with neglected national traditions is to be highly commended. For these reasons, Benozzo would be worthy and important winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2025.

The Partnership Studies Group, directed by Prof. Antonella Riem, founding member of the GALA international network in 2014, also confirmed Francesco Benozzo’s candidature for the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature.
