A postcard from Beijing

Posted on November 18, 2015

This month Dr. Sarah Flavel, Lecturer in Religions, Philosophies and Ethics, travelled to Beijing to visit colleagues at our GALA partner institution, Beijing Foreign Studies University, with support from Santander. The trip included a visit to Beijing’s Confucius Temple as well as meetings with staff at the Centre for East-West Relations and the International Office at BFSU to discuss future exchange and research collaboration opportunities for staff and students at Bath Spa. Sarah toured the BFSU campus and facilities for international students, including the new university library. The BFSU campus provides students an opportunity to engage with a wide range of subjects, including Chinese languages and culture, in a friendly, convenient environment in the heart of Beijing’s university district. Future plans for development include a summer school in UK Studies at Bath Spa for BFSU students as well as research links in Global Philosophy and Confucianism. During the visit to China she also met with colleagues at the neighbouring Peking and Renmin Universities and was invited to East China Normal University, Shanghai to deliver a graduate seminar on ‘Nihilism and East-West Comparative Philosophy.’   beijing 2  beijing 3
