Posted on April 13, 2017

Our annual meeting and conference in Parma is coming up in July, and our host in Parma, Francesca Zanella, has been working tirelessly to get everything organised.

Overview

The conference will begin with a welcome cocktail in central Parma in the late afternoon/ early evening on Wednesday 5 July ( precise time to be confirmed ). The conference will take place on 6 and 7 July at Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione (CSAC), based at Parma’s former Cistercian Valserena Abbey, about 10km north of Parma. There will be a GALA dinner at the Abbey on 6 July.

CSAC website: http://www.csacparma.it/

The conference will be followed by a student summer school focused on heritage and arts management that will run for 8–12 July. Students who attend the summer school will be invited to attend the conference. For more details about the summer school, please contact Francesca Zanella.

Getting to Parma

From Bologna airport:

  • There is an Aerobus which leaves from outside ‘Arrivals’ every 10 minutes which will take you directly to Bologna Stazione Centrale; you can buy your ticket (€5 or €6) on the bus. The journey takes 20-25 minutes depending on traffic; the train station is the terminus.
  • At the train station you will need buy your train ticket to Parma from one of the red machines inside the station (they have an English language option and you can buy by card).
  • Regional trains (abbreviated as R or RV) are cheaper but a bit slower (1 hour) and leave from the west (ovest) side of the station. You will need to punch your ticket in a green machine before boarding your train.
  • Faster trains (intercity and freccia bianca) are more expensive and leave from the central platforms; there is no need to validate your ticket prior to departure.
  • If you want to check timetables in advance, visit http://www.trenitalia.com and tick “Tutti i treni”

From Milano Malpensa airport:

  • Malpensa airport is 55km north-west of Milan: http://www.milanomalpensa-airport.com /
  • The Medium Fastest to reach Malpensa to Milano central station is: The Malpensa Express.
  • This train service combines directly Terminal 1 to the Milano Centrale (Central Station) in about 50 minutes with several stops. Departures are every 30 minutes, the ticket for an adult costs 10 euro. The second terminal is connected to Terminal 1 via a free shuttle service (bus frequency every 20 minutes).
  • [see below for travel from Milan central station] From Milano Linate airport:
  • Linate airport is 10km east of Milan: http://www.linate-airport.com/
  • (NB. The central station is not in the centre of Milan, but about 3km north-east of the centre.)
  • There is a direct bus/shuttle to the central station operated by http://www.starfly.net/ : this leaves every 30 minutes and costs €6 (buy on board)
  • Taxis are about €20 and take 20–25 minutes to get to the Milan central station
  • [see below for travel from Milan central station]

From Milan central station:

  • At the train station you will need buy your train ticket to Parma from one of the machines inside the station (they have an English language option and you can buy by card).
  • Regional trains (abbreviated as R or RV) are cheaper but a bit slower; you will need to punch your ticket in a green machine before boarding your train.
  • Faster trains (intercity and freccia bianca) are more expensive; there is no need to validate your ticket prior to departure.

Getting to CSAC from central Parma:

  • CSAC is about 10km north of Parma
  • We are looking into arranging a bus to transport delegates from the centre of Parma and back again
  • Public transport option

○ Bus 7 (direction Colorno) leaves from stops throughout the city (see map and timetable)

○ The bus has a regular ‘short’ route; only the ‘long’ route, which is hourly, goes out to CSAC

○ The most central stop is Viale Giovanni Mariotti at the Piazza Ghiaia (next to the bridge, Ponte di Mezzo, on the east side of the river)—the ‘long’ route departs every hour from 07:09 to 19.09

○ There is also a stop outside the central station—the ‘long’ route departs every hour from 07:12 to 19.12

○ The CSAC stop is located on the main highway (SP343R); the journey-time is about 15-20 minutes.

○ Buses heading back into Parma leave the CSAC stop every hour from 07.22 to 19.22

○ On Sundays and holidays, a different timetable applies

○ It’s difficult—although not impossible—to buy a ticket on the bus; instead you should buy tickets from a tabacchi. Not all tabacchi sell tickets for all buses; you can definitely buy tickets for bus 7 at the tabacchi on Strada G.Garibaldi, opposite the Teatro Regio (just south of the University of Parma central campus). 6 single tickets cost €11.

  • A taxi from the centre of Parma to CSAC will cost €7–12 and take about 15 minutes
