The following Bath Spa GALA Outreach awards were made during 2016–17: University of Adelaide

  • Charlotte Shipperley (Environmental Humanities, PhD student): participation in H2O conference and related activities

  Beijing Foreign Studies University

  • Support for six students (CoLA: 4 ug; BSAD 1 ug, 1 MA) to attend Chinese Thought and Culture Summer School

  Columbia College, Chicago

  • Hannah Chapman (Transnational Writing, MA): collaborating with students on comic writing project and participating in Chicago Alternative Comics Expo
  • Philip Holley (Marketing): fact-finding visit to learn about recruitment and enrollment
  • Mark Langley (Music and Performing Arts): to identify collaborative opportunities in music and performing arts subjects
  • Laura Little (Publishing): to identify collaborative opportunities in publishing
  • Joy Merron (Textiles, BSAD): to show a fashion exhibition involving BSU and Columbia College students and to identify collaborative opportunities with textiles and fashion
  • Francesco Raffo (CoLA ug): to film key scenes for a Year 3 film project

  Claremont Graduate University

  • Kristin Doern (Business) and 8 CoLA students (7 MA, 1 ug) on Culture, Heritage and the Arts postgraduate exchange trip
  • Russell Re Manning (Study of Religions and Philosophy): Support attendance of CGU faculty to give workshops & keynote lecture at BSU Colloquium for Global Philosophy and Religion and additional activities

  • Laura Purcell-Gates (Drama): to identify collaborative opportunities in field of object theatre and puppetry

  SUNY Geneseo

  • Mark Langley (Music and Performing Arts): visit to identify collaborative opportunities in music and performing arts subjects
  • Helena McCaskie and Karen McGinty (Housing): fact-finding visit to learn about campus housing, student experience, and international student exchange

  National Institute of Design

  • Tim Vyner (Illustration), Swagata Ghosh (CoLA MA) and Sophie Parsons (BSAD ug): to participate in international Chitrakatha animation festival

  National Taiwan University of the Arts

  • Wen-Hsi Chen (Ceramics, PhD): to present a workshop based on PhD project

  University of Parma

  • Katharine Reeve (Publishing): to oversee a digital publishing project with art and design collections at CSAC
  • Amy Mower (CoLA ug): 2-week publishing placement working in CSAC collections
  • Amy Barrett (CoLA ug): to lead student session at GALA conference
  • Jacob Lewis-Leeson (CoLA ug): to lead student session at GALA conference
  • Sharon Martin (CoLA MA): to participate in GALA conference
  • Kristin Doern and 12 CoLA students (11 MA, 1 ug): to attend GALA conference and cultural heritage summer school

  • Sara Gallagher (Student Support): fact-finding visit to learn about student support and pastoral care
  • Andrew Hugill (Creative Computing): to identify collaborative opportunities in field of creative computing

  • Miranda Barnes (Creative Writing): poet in residence at Tree Ring Laboratory

  • Samantha Walton (English): to participate in environmental humanities conference and identify collaborative opportunities
